Computer Problem Solved!?

At least for now. Today has been the first day I have been able to get onto the internet from home in about a month. I know that AOL tech support is absolutely sick of me. I made nightly calls to them and we did numerous things, did numerous fixes over and over and over again with no luck at all.

I am not sure why I was able to get on now! It is a mystery that I hope is solved, fixed... whatever! Now I can blog again! I think that AOL needs to credit me for a month of free service since I have been out of commission for so long. The last 2 or 3 posts were made from work in secret. I could not keep that up. I have too many people coming to my desk all day long to blog at work. I would not be able to do that without interruption or fear that someone is standing near reading, waiting for me to finish typing to ask a question.

Computer Problems Revisited!

Still having computer problems. I spent another 30 minutes on the phone with another AOL guy last night trying to get me to connect to AOL. The problem is still unresolved. The next thing for me to try (according to AOL) is to get an AOL disc and call them with the disk. There is some sort of fix on the disk that they will try. He last mentioned something about files that would support the software and they would walk me through that. I will be getting a disk today. This is so very frustrating. It is amazing how dependent I am on my computer and feel cut off without it.

Now what does that say about our society and the world of computers? Is that really air that we are breathing, Neo?

Wild Dogs Taking Over Hong Kong Disney

Now here is a very interesting piece of news!

HONG KONG (AP)--Hundreds of wild dogs are roaming Hong Kong Disneyland's grounds a month before the park opens, raising concerns that guests and staff could be attacked, a Disney spokeswoman said Sunday.

Park officials are seeking advice from animal experts - including the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals - on how to clear out the dogs, which haven't attacked anyone, said Hong Kong Disneyland spokeswoman Esther Wong.

Packs of dogs surface by the hundreds from neighboring hills after dark and pester staff, The South China Morning Post reported Sunday. Wong said she didn't know how many dogs wander the theme park.

Hong Kong Disneyland, which the Walt Disney Co. (WIS) plans to open Sept. 12., is on reclaimed land on the outlying, sparsely populated Lantau island.

The dog issue came under scrutiny two weeks ago when the Post reported that Disneyland staff were using the animals as guard dogs, which were later rounded up and killed. The accusations drew criticism from animal activists.

The park denied using any as guard dogs, but Hong Kong's conservation department confirmed 45 dogs had been caught around Disneyland since May, and some were euthanized.

Computer Problems!!!

I have been plagued by computer problems for the past week or two. I cannot get connected to the Internet. I have AOL and for the life of me I keep getting that error message “ the network failed to respond properly.” I have done the AOL trouble shooting procedure about 8 times. I have had AOL redetect my modem and finally on yesterday I called AOL

I got a foreign sounding man which makes me think that AOL is doing what my company is doing...outsourcing the computer technical team. My company has outsourced our computer help desk to Ireland. It was in India about 2 years ago, now it is Ireland. Can you even begin to understand people in Ireland on the phone??? Hell No! At work you have to have them repeat what they just said about 2-3 times because the accent is so strong.

Well, my foreign AOL man and I began to go through all the things I had done to correct the problem. I had done everything correctly. So he decided that he wanted to clear out the old connectivity things I had done in hopes that the computer would magically connect to AOL with a fresh start. So he walked me through the steps to get to the AOL connectivity folder via the control panel. I even got a case number. He said that hopefully when I tried to log onto AOL now, it would happen.

I ended my call with him and with baited breath, I logged onto AOL. It went through about 27 tries. I tried again and again for the next 2 hours last night and still I cannot get logged onto the Internet from home. What to do? It is seriously hampering my ability to blog.

Here I sit at work with Finishing Shoes pretty close by and other managers walking all around me. I am trying to secretly get this typed and cut and pasted from a word document into my blog. This is not so good. All I want to do is kick AOL in the butt with a diamond buckled shoe. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. (FYI…I did virus scans and ran the defragment program also to be sure I had no viruses and to be sure I was running at top computer speed.)

Cute Shoes and Walt Disney World

Always wear the correct shoes when going to Walt Disney World. I have been on holiday for the last 2 weeks and believe it or not decided not to blog. Now I have been having withdrawals so here I am again.

During the 2nd week of my vacation I took dirty Fila and my nephew to Walt Disney World and all I can say is, “what was I thinking?” The trip itself was magical and we had a fabulous time for the days we were there. It certainly was magical on my pocketbook. I went with $800 cash (determined not to use any plastic) and when I got home, I had exactly $13.59 in my wallet out of that $800. The money magically disappeared each day! And quick!

The “what was I thinking?” relates to shoes. The first day I wore a pair of 2 inch brown sandals with cork wedge heels. Now these shoes are perfectly comfortable at home for daily walking but they were murder after about 1 hours of constant walking/movement at WDW. I looked good. The shoes matched what I was wearing but please, I was having some bout of shoe insanity. After that first hour, I decided I had to go back to our resort and change. Yes, I had bought tennis shoes--3 pairs. So on when a pair and the world was a much better place.

I had bought 3 pairs of tennis shoes in case we got caught in a rainstorm and a pair got wet. I had a pair of new balance, nike and a pair of avias. So all was good until later on in the first day my nephew said that his feet were hurting. I grew alarmed. I asked why. He said that his shoes were too small. Well, that night he had a blister and I delved into great detail about his shoes. Apparently those shoes were from this past school year and he had grown over the summer to they no longer fit.

The only option was for him to wear my shoes. I gave him a pair of my less feminine looking athletic shoes and he was good to go after that! We got caught in the rain one day and our shoes got drenched. Luckily I had extra pairs.

I have learned my lesson. Cute shoes and Walt Disney World do not mix. Not even if you want to dress up for a dinner at the park. It still is a long walk/ordeal in “cute” shoes to get from a resort to a nice restaurant in Epcot (Italy, Japan, Canada) or at Chef Mickey’s or at the Crystal Palace at the Magic Kingdom. When you get there, you may look cute, but most likely you will be in pain and look like Quasimodo! I know! From experience!
