GFS Series: Christ Chic...Le Sigh

(Super LONG post! Feel free to just look at the pics but it is SO worth it if you continue reading:)

Vintage blouse/belt, Target Skirt, these Paris Hilton shoes)

Let me start by saying that I went to church on Sunday. It's important that you know that.

So, after church, the Mr., the kiddo and I, needed to swing by JC Penney to get her some sports bras for softball. We walk in and ask the first employee we see to point us in the right direction. We go upstairs and stumble around still not finding what we were looking for.

We go to the intimate apparel department where three of JC Penney's finest are huddled, engrossed in what I assume is a conversation about the government's impending shutdown...it has to be that serious to ignore us, right?

I ask the group for help finding sports bra. They all pause long enough for Chaka Khan the ring leader to make slight eye contact and POINT to a back wall. The kiddo, the Mr. and I, all look at each other because surely this lady is going to stop her conversation to help us.

Not so much.

(I almost fell in this pic)

My crew automatically looks at me because they know that I can get quite vocal when it comes to poor customer service. But this is where you remember that I went to church. God was still in me.

So I bit my lip and we all went into the designated area. No sports bras. We wondered back downstairs to look in the athletic department. Sports bras built in shirts but not sports bras alone. We find another employee who directs us back upstairs. Le Sigh.

We go back upstairs. Low and behold...who do we see but Chaka Khan again. We tell her that we didn't see any sports bras. She then so graciously turns into Vanna White and points to this one row of sports bras, which were white and gray. There were no signs. Just blended in with the regular bras. We start to look through them as Chaka stands nearby. Since she was standing there just looking, I asked her if she could measure the kiddo. Let me also say that the kiddo is taller and more developed than most ten year olds. She has the body of a young woman.

So...the following conversation ensues...

Me: Could you please measure her since we are here?
Chaka Khan: *without budging* How old is she?
Me: *blank stare* She's 11...(confused)
Chaka Khan: *looking disgusted* Oh no. There is an age limit to get fitted. We only measure ages 16 and up.

Again, a collective blank stare...Chaka Khan included.

Chaka Khan: (continues) Yes, that's policy. We don't measure under age 16 because if we measure her today and then she grows at the end of the week, you're gonna have to buy her a new bra.

Me: *blank stare*
Chaka Khan: I can NOT measure her.
Me: But we've been here before and had her measured before.
Chaka Khan: Oh no. That's against policy.

Remember again, we just came from church. I bite my tongue.

Me: You know what...that's ok.
Chaka Khan: Well let her come back here so I can see.
Me: You know what, don't worry about it. *walking away*
Chaka Khan: (yelling as we walk away) I'm TRYING to give you suggestions.

All of us walk away side eyeing the heck out of each other.

Of course, you know I found a manager.  Ummm hmmm. I explained the "new bra measure policy" and of course the manager never heard of such. The manager asked me to go back to the department with her to confront Chaka Khan, PROTECTOR of the MEASURING TAPE.

Chaka stands her ground and even added that she was trained to not measure preteens because some parents don't want their kids wearing "padded bras."

BLANK STARE!!!! Who said ANYTHING about PADDED BRAS LADY!

I still had a song in my heart from church so I just aggressively politely told both the manager and Chaka that she was no help, her customer service skills are piss poor and that they should agree on a policy.  (My version of Sunday polite atleast.)

Here are my questions though.

1. So what if I have to buy a new bra at the end of the week? Is it your money?
2. Let's say that I do have to come back to get another bra in a week...are you refusing to sell it to me?
3. Why are your nails so long? Is that sanitary?
4. Do you have on two wigs?
5. Do you really know someone whose boobs grew in a week?

There's more...but I can't. I just can't.

Little Ol' Me

Smashion, the fashion social site where people sell and swap their favorite items, did a little feature on GFS (I love that I just branded myself! Ha!)

Check out the interview here!

Also, thank you KEY for all of your support of GFS and  SFAM!

And to keep this all in perspective. I will share you with an exchange I had with my brother. I randomly sent my little brother a link to my Smashion interview. I never send him anything about my blog because...well he is a guy and it's not on XBOX, so it doesn't matter to him.

I sent the link around 7am. At 7:22am, this was his reply...

My Sucker Brother: "This is what you think about when you wake up?"
Me: What else is there to think about?
My Sucker Brother: *crickets*

Bloggers with Benefits!

Blogging has allowed me to connect with fabulous and talented people that I normally would've never met.

So far through blogging I've gained the following:

2. A workout partner who encourages me even when I sneak chicken after a work out.
3. A Dallas girl who appreciates the smooth of my skin...(inside joke that you will never get)
4. A Minister of Style who allows me to cuss when we talk:)
5. A Texas newcomer who will be contributing in a major way to a project I'm working on and has met my barkless dog Frankie Beverly

And now Dana, the talent behind Olive Paperie. For no apparent reason at all, she emailed me and told me that she made some stationary using me/my blog as a muse! How Awesome and completely flattering is that!

Thank you so much!

You're Invited To SFAM's Board Meeting

If you're new to this blog, you should know that I along with Juanette from Fashionnette-work started an online shop where you can buy vintage items and other finds.

You can read the story on how we met here but you should know that the moral of this post is "Believe It and It Shall Be Done!"

Last summer we jokingly said that we loved and trusted each other's style so much that we should have an online business. She lives in Dallas and I'm in Houston. We needed a spot that would be halfway for both of us and that just so happens to be in Madisonville, Texas where Buc-ee's is located.  I jokingly said that our "office" should be at Buccee's.

8 months later...guess where we met to conduct some business?? BU-CEE'S!

She's never been to Bucee's so I had to show her around. I kinda was a little too excited to give her a tour but by the time we left...she shared my appreciation for Bucee's.

We had barbecue sandwiches in the parking lot...working lunch of course.

Then we took the opportunity to take a few photos...for business purposes of course. (Thank you Petra for taking our pics!)

You might notice in one of the pics above that we are both wearing different jackets. That's because part of our "business" was to exchange clothes that we've been thrifting and holding for each other over the course of a year.

She copped me this fabulous Anne Klein jacket, worn with a F21 tee, Zara pants and my Christmas gift shoes (Pour La Victoire heels)

Somehow she hustled this army jacket from me but I admit that she looks in it so I would say it was a fair swap!

...Pics for our business cards perhaps...

And even found time to act out a scene from The Color Purple...(Me and You Shall Never Part!)

Then we had to go back inside Bucee's because I needed to get my turkey jerkey, homemade fudge and a jar of candied jalopenos before I made my way back to Houston!

We made the most of our "meeting"...trust me. Oddly enough, we never once thought about the people around us staring and laughing. It was just another day at the office...AT BUCEE'S!!!!!

Meeting Ajourned!

(P.S. I do have a real sister whom I should mention here so she doesn't think I'm replacing her. That's my boo too. I love both my sisters...biological and fashionably related)

SFAM Item of the Week!

This amazing Ralph Lauren jacketdress is SFAM's item of the week

For the boardroom: button her up, add a chunky statement necklace, platforms and go. For after hours: unbutton, add a shirt and your favorite skinnies and you're a quick change artist with attitude.

See how I rocked a similar look here with a different jacket/dress.

Shop SFAM, we take the guesswork out of shopping and style it for you!

And Congrats to Latise for winning the I Got Wired Charm Necklace! I will be sending you an email soon:)

Latisse said...
I would get Kalen...my son's name, with a heart stamped next too it. He is my heart! I've been debating on getting the tattoo of a K and heart behind my ear, but I think that the necklace would be lovelier.

And thank you Olive Paperie for using me as a muse here!

Happy Valentine's Day

I promise you this wasn't an intentional Valentine's outifit. I was flipping through my People's Style Watch magazine this week and stumbled across this pic of Julianne Moore rocking pink and red and loved it. Mainly because I had the exact pieces in my closet. Once upon a time, I would've never thought of this combo. Is it odd that even with this color combo, it's still plain to me? Hmph.

Vintage Christian Dior jacket
Thrifted Ralph Lauren blouse
Zara Skirt
Jessica Simpson heels
Stolen Borrowed men's belt

Those of you who follow me on twitter know that I went to the Frankie Beverly concert for Valentine's weekend where I witnessed a plethora of zoot suits, jheri curls and platform zebra over the kneee boots (ridiculous). I didn't get to go with my intended date but that's another story for another day. I did however enjoy Frankie nonetheless:)

(this pic looks like I am pissed off...I wasn't:)

Happy Birthday to my sister!
Happy Anniversary to the The Franklins:)
