A Dream Deferred

Since I picked up the hobby of thrift shopping, I tend to make up stories to go with the clothes I find.

For instance, this hunting vest was found in the men's department.

I suspect the owner of this vest was forced to get rid of his vest at the request of his wife.
She probably was so sick of him spending all of his time in the woods that she told him that he had to stop hunting.

Not because she didn't want him to have a hobby...but because he didn't have a JOB! She worked as a teacher's aide/exotic escort and he hunted while she was gone.
This probably went on for years.

Perfhaps she only put up with it for so long because she didn't want to be accused of stifling his dreams.
He always talked about his desire to own his hunting company where he trained people to hunt for deer, elks, and bears.

He probably had other get rich quick schemes over the years but this one was the last straw for the wife.
She probably told him that if he hadn't atleast acquired a single client by the end of the year, he had to get a job.

The year came and went. Still not a single person to start his business. Rufus had to finally give up hunting. On that last day of the year, he took all of his hunting/safari gear including this vest to the local thrift store. The very next day, he got a job as an air traffic controller. His wife was pleased, he got plenty of rest on the job and I got this vest.

Thrifted vest, Target Belt/Skirt, F21 T-Shirt, LAMB Heels, Watch c/o TIKKR, Borrowed Train Case

Thank you Rufus. I hope you weren't one of the ones caught sleeping on  your new job!

LOL...See...I told you. I make up stories to go along with my thrift finds.

You should try it sometimes. It's fun.

GFS in New Orleans: Bye Bye N'awlins

This is what I wore my last morning in New Orleans and the 6 hour ride back home. I found this silk-what I assume to be an Indian garment but probably is a pajama gown- at the thrift shop. I heart it so. It's perfectly comfortable and an alterative to jeans and t shirt.

Tunic/sash/scarf: Thrift Shop
American Apparel leggings/clutch
Pour La Victoire Sandals

On our way out, we stopped by the Camellia Grille for breakfast.

I take breakfast seriously. I can eat breakfast any time of the day. This quite possibly could be the best breakfast I've ever eaten...in my life.

Bye New Orleans!

GFS in New Orleans: Santa Fe Chic

Can you believe I thrifted this skirt? It was actually a two piece and I got it for the top. I was really digging the ethnic print of it all. Then for some reason unknown to me, I decided to try on the skirt and slide it up!

VOILA! It's a dress! A dress I love the most!  The print has a Santa Fe vibe to it, don't you think?

I threw on my wedges and a belt and walked the streets of New Orleans. New Orleans is a blogger's dream for beautiful backdrops for pictures. I couldn't get enough of the brick buildings and random spottings of grafitti.

Thanks to The Minister of Style's suggestion we made it to Mother's Cafe where the line was crazy long! I felt just like a tourist taking pics of people while they were working!

Next New Orleans Post coming soon...

Spoiler alert...for those who don't want to bother reading the rest of this post...the moral is TODAY SUCKED!

(Forced Smile, Thrifted Men's Blazer, scarf, Thrifted Vintage Blouse, Zara pants, MY ULTIMATE Coupe de' grace THRIFT...authentic LV SAC Plat (yes, I'm a beast when I thrift)

Not all of today sucked...just every second after 4pm. I will try to hit the key points of today's disaster....

I go to Target to exchange a broken tripod (the reason I haven't blogged much). I get to the customer service booth and of course the Super Target Nazi lady asked for ID to make the EVEN EXCHANGE! I dig for it. No ID. Ah yes...I switched purses this morning and I forgot to put my license back in my wallet. I beg the Target rule enforcer to allow just an even exchange. Same item. NO money back.

Nope. Super Target Nazi Lady/rule enforcer refused. I stay calm because I once worked customer service. I know the drill. Be nice. Smile. Keep voice calm. I ask for a manager and offer to show her other forms of ID, bank cards, even my insuraance policy. The manager who I would assume must be single handedly trying to bring back the 90's by wearing her hair like Salt N Pepa in the Push It video, refused to allow me to exchange.

Fine. I decide to go home, get the ID and exchange at another Target. I drive through rush hour traffic all the while enduring a stressful phone call with a person who refuses to practice good communication skills by actually LISTENING. I get to the second Target...and they have not a one of my tripod in stock! NOT ONE! GRRRR!

You would think I would give up, right? Oh no, I never give up. I go to a third Target. They have the tripod BUT they wanted me to pay a $2 difference because I didn't have a receipt...bla bla bla. Now, I get it technically. No receipt= Suck it up. I couldn't do it. I calmly explained to the apparently new on the job Target representative that it should be an even exchange. She agrees. I finally leave. There's other stuff in between all of this but then you would just say that I'm whining. (Shush...it's my blog...I can whine:)

I get the tripod. It's pitch black by now but I've gone through all of this trouble anyway. I find a spot. Set up the Tripod...then the camera dies after two shots!!!  Oh and my phone died. I left my charger at work. Score. Not.

BUT...I did make it home to watch the TLC show "Addicted to Eating Pillow Cushions" and "Addicted to Ingesting  Household Cleaning Agents."

So, it wasn't a total loss....he he he:)

Movie Hair

(Thrifted Army Shirt/ Target Harem-ish pants/Target Scarf and Tee)

I'm alive. I'll get back into the blogging groove eventually.  Promise.

Every time I wear my hair in this little retro updo, I get a different reaction.
So far, I've been told my hair  looks like hair from the movie "A Few Good Men" (yay) and "Celie from The Color Purple" (boo).  I've been getting bored with my hair lately so I'm trying different styles to get me out of my funk.
P.S. Lately I'm all about pants and flats. Go figure. I think it has to do with the change in weather. Or it could be that I can't be bothered with most things lately. I'm sure it's a phase

Rumble in the Jungle

We are finally getting a cool breeze in Texas. Of course, everyone in Texas does it big. So while I wore this little jacket to keep me warm, I anticipated the UGGS coming out and the ski jackets. Mind you it only got down to about 60 degrees. When I went to church, I literally made a mental note to count the number of fur boots and fur coats on the ladies. I saw none.

BUT...I did see a MAN at the bar at Pappadeaux's during brunch with a FUR COAT on...with a HOOD!!!! A HOOD! Fur Coat? Really? In Houston dude? Really? You couldn't just wear a hoodie? A long sleeved shirt with a v neck pull over? Anything? And why are you sitting at the bar...at 11am, mind you, drinking alcohol...wearing your fur coat...INSIDE! They have heat in here!

Furthermore FurMan...why do you even own a fur coat in Houston? We only get about one week of winter weather every 2 years!

Thrifted jacket (because I'm a thrifting beast)
