My Intentions Were Pure

(I can't wait to wear this dress as an open jacket over some jeans or jeggings)

My intentions were good. I promise. I got dressed in this little frock (thrifted for 2 bucks)and set out for church. Somehow, I ended up at a restaraunt eating pancakes, a hashbrown casserole and bacon. What can I say, God knows my heart WANTED to go to church. Doesn't that count for something? It has to. Somebody woke up drunk this morning. I woke up and got dressed for Jesus. I just didn't quite make it. Atleast I got dressed...right? Right.

Thrifted Belt and Dress
Charles David Clutch
Aldo Shoes
Guilt for not making it to church: Me
Does it count if I told you that the pancakes were the best pancakes ever?

Also, I found this silk dress/jacket/ in the nightgown/robe section of the thrift store. The lesson is...look everywhere for hidden gems while thrfting.

Man Down! Code 10!

Awww...pretty dress, right? I love it. I wore it to church. I thrifted it in Dallas a few weeks ago.
Ooh look at the pretty Paris Hilton shoes with the pretty, pretty bow.
Hot, right?

NO! NOT HOT!
Literally after this picture was taken. I FELL. AGAIN!!! JESUS! And it was the fall from hell! As I walked away from taking this picture, the heel of one shoe got caught in the deathtrap bow of the other. I crashed full force into the curb. KNEE FIRST! I landed so hard that I literally thought I crushed my knee!

The bf is so used to my tumbling that he thought it was the normal "Oh, there goes Reiko again" kind of fall. Only when he realized I didn't hop back up like normal and saw tears forming in my eyes did he realize that this was a biggie!

So after three days of trying to tough it out. I went to the doctor. I felt it only fitting to document the experience for your blogging reading pleasure.

Doc: Ooh...I love that purple on you.
Me: *blushing yet wincing from the pain* Thank you! I try!
Doc: Is that a Mexican dress?
Me: *thinking "How YOU Doin"* Why, yes it is!
Doc: What brings you in? I haven't seen you in a while.
Me: Paris Hilton pushed me.
Doc: *silence*
Me: Well, she didn't push me. Her shoes tripped me and I fell into a curb.
Doc: Oh no. My "friend" has a hard time with heels.
Me: *side eye at friend*
Doc: I'm going to give you the number to a shoe doctor that can put pads on the bottom of your heels and literally you feel like you are wearing sneakers.

I love my doctor! HE is such a diva! After he gave me the shoe doctor's number, he told me that I probably bruised my knee but if I still felt pressure in another week, to come back and take xrays. I explained to him that I've been stumbling quite alot lately.

After a series of medical questions, we both concluded that I should just be more careful.  Awesome! Thanks Doc!

I told him that giving up my heels was not an option. This blog is called God's Favorite Shoes. God likes flats but he LOVES heels. He told me...God that is. I talked to him last night.  The doctor said I should be fine and proceeded to talk about the most comfortable heels his "friend" swears by.

*side eye at "friend", Doc...side eye*

....it's okay to laugh...and point fingers...and shake your head! HA!

Just Another Day

So today went something like this...

1. Put on this thrifted shirt dress for the first time and high fived myself because its perfect!
2. Got in the car and caught a Lauren Hill mix going on!
3. On my way to an important meeting...got majorly lost.

($2 thrift dress from my Dallas trip, Target Belt, BCBG Heels, Men's F21 Cap)

4. Finally got to the meeting and realized I left an important document which means I have to go to the meeting again.
5. Fell on my butt again (I know, ridiculous! But my foot got caught in the door of my house and I couldn't break the fall.)
6. Got rained on.
7. Finally caught the Behind the Music on Usher on VH1.
Yep, that's about average for me. Can't have it all, can I?

GFS in Dallas: Part 1

I was in Dallas for a week and I made the most of every moment...thriftily speaking that is. I knew that Juanette from Fashion-nette was in Dallas and we have chatted through emails before so we agreed to meet. Since I'm all about thrifting, I could tell through Juanette's blog that we had the same style so I knew she would know the spots.

(This pic was taken after hours of thrifting! We were both exhausted!)

When I got to town...I went to my meetings and scurried to the hotel to meet her. This is how the conversation went.

Me: Hey girl, I'll be ready around 6pm.
Juanette: Okay. I'l be there but I'm kind of sick so I hope you didn't dress up.
Me: (looking at what I had on) Nah, I just have on a skirt and some wedges. Nothing special.
Juanette: Okay. I've got a cold so I'm not gonna be all jazzy.
Me: Okay. (thinking about changing into some jeans and flats but didn't feel like ironing)

Fast forward 15 minutes.

I get my butt in the car and this chick looks like she just stepped off the pages of Essence magazine! Really Juanette? Sick...really? Why do you have on make-up Juanette? Why do you have on that beautiful maxi dress? Why do you have on heels Juanette? This is not the look of I'm So SICK! She was trying to catch me slipping YALL! When I'm sick, I have on a tee and jeans and maybe a cute sandal...usually a cap pulled over my head...not beautiful earrings and a PRADA bag on my arm!

I am wearing the Zebra wedges by Sam Edelman. Remember when I wore that dress from ASOS here? The dress came in that printed fabric. I just stuffed one of my large clutches inside it to make it sturdy and voila...a new clutch!

As soon as  I get in the car, I gave her a not so secret "side eye". Ummm hmmmm. I see how you are Juanette. You wanted me to be the ugly duckling? No boo, no!

This was literally the first time we have ever met and you would swear that we've known each other few years. She didn't hesitate taking me anywhere at all! She took me to some hidden gems and I found some awesome pieces that I will show you later.  The funny part is the thrift stores didn't have dressing rooms. You would've turned around wouldn't you? Nope. Not us. Juanette showed me her corner of the store in the back and all you saw were shirts flying, zippers breaking, hips squeezing! I had to prove to her that I could hang.

We had a blast and she was so willing to take me anywhere. This girl is crazy talented...I will tell you more about that in the next installment of GFS in Dallas: Part 2 along with Erin and Tina. I also met, Chastity a new author of a fab book! That will be in Part 3!

Laundry...(just keep reading)

This is just a quick post because I am pretty delirious at this very moment from lack of sleep. This is the vintage 70's shirt that I picked up in Austin over the weekend. I am feeling the colors for Spring.. I thought I would throw a little unexpectedness with the rolled up khaki's and my favorite RED shoes of all time! Kate Spade will be so proud of this whole ensemble! I took the pics at night right before I slipped into my kimono to relax. I have quite the selection of kimonos by the way...they are my version of luxurious lounging. Speaking of luxurious lounging...
A few months ago, I ran into an old family friend who is in  her 70's and quite religious. I am talking about carrying a vial of holy water and a bible with her at all times kind of religious. She has known me since birth and basically is the neighborhood grandmother. Well, we were catching up and she was telling me how she is so happy now with her second husband because her first husband wasn't 'bout' nothin! (Her words, not mine). Then she proceeded to school me on what it takes to "pleasure yourself". I was mortified! This is the same lady who was reading me a bible verse literally 5 minutes before!
She told me that all women..."married, shacking and ESPECIALLY single" ladies should buy pretty "laundry" (I had to use my context clues to figure out that she meant lingerie!), pretty undies and smell goods. She said that every single (insert Beyonce' song here)  lady should put on their "smell goods and their laundry and look in the mirror and say I LOOK GOOD"...every single night. Then she proceeded to tell me about her nightie that she wore on her wedding night at which  point I FLATLINED...DEAD...NO PULSE!

I don't know what made me think of that conversation...maybe it's because I'm in my laundry kimono right now and I see my reflection in the mirror...let me pause a moment to say to the mirror I LOOK GOOD.............................................................Okay. Done!

Kate Spade Shoes... I love these shoes with all thine heart and all thine soul!

On a random note, can you tell me some things that you have always been told to be "fashion rules"? Fashion rules like not wearing white after labor day, black is slimming....etc.
I'll tell you why you are helping me out sooner rather than later:)

(sorry  about me looking so tired in the pics...trust me those were the best of the bunch)
I guess this post wasn't so quick after all:(

GFS Meets Austin, Texas!

This weekend I had to take a day trip to Austin, Texas. I had to take a stupid test to prove how smart I am. Apparently even after one gets a Master's Degree, you are still considered stupid until you take another stupid test. (Can you detect the venom?)
Anyway, thanks to my great blog/twitter friend Kellyssima who also happens to make jewelry in Austin...I got the heads up on a few great vintage stores to check out!
I checked out Blue Velvet Vintage Store and I am so glad that I did! They had fab clothes and truly vintage, not just old people stuff! Some of the stuff was costumey but I was overall beyond satisfied...as in EVERY SINGLE TIME I GO BACK TO AUSTIN, I MUST GO THERE!
The rainbow bright colored hooker boots were a bit much but I'm pretty sure some hooker in Austin is on her way right now to grab them:) No judgement though.
Here is the sweet chick that checked me out. She was very patient as I tried to get discounts off discounts! She told me she was from Houston but moved to Austin when she and her hubby both got accepted the University of Texas. The other smiley lady...just a customer who wanted to take a picture I guess??
Believe it or not, I didn't go crazy. I got three items I loved...A fitted vintage Neiman Marcus blazer, a 70's plaid shirt perfect for Spring....AND............A 70'S CAFTAN THAT EVEN DIANA ROSS WOULD SLAP ME FOR!  Let just put it this way...Nicole Richie is mad that I have the dress and not her! I can't wait to show you! It makes me giggle just thinking about it!!

Oh yeah...I fell on my butt on the way to take that stupid test too...Yes, I fell again!
I'll tell you about that later this week.

Not for nothing...I hiked a little mini mountain in Austin and found this couple sitting on the edge of the cliff singing from what I assume was a hymn book? It was very odd but they were singing their little hearts out. They would sing in unison and then smile and gaze at each other. I was like WTH?? I kept waiting for them to jump together or something! I kept looking around to see if anyone else was phased by this scene but not so much. I had to sneak a picture. They were either singing to God or the Devil, I'm not sure but they were in tune nonetheless!

I'm Back!

I found my camera cord...downstairs in the closet. Why was it down there? I have no idea. How did it get down there? Clueless. But I finally was able to "free" my trapped photos and do a real post...GFS STYLE!

(Franco Sarto Shoes via Marshall's...LOVE THESE. I will be wearing these out for the Spring)
If you notice, I haven't mentioned going thrifting in a very long time. It's been since Thanksgiving to be exact. I made a deliberate decision to stop. I was starting to accumulate way too much stuff. I gave myself a long break because honestly I was beginning to know too much about the people who worked at my favorite thrift stores!

I went back this weekend and stumbled upon some acid wash jeans. I KNOW! ACID WASH JEANS? Bringing the 80's back a little too hard? I KNOW!! But for some reason, probably due to my obsession with boyfriend jeans...I had to have them. I tried these 505 Levi's jeans on but they were quite honestly not made for my shape. I did however kind of liked the idea of them...which is odd because I HATED ACID WASH when I was younger.

I ended up not getting them...not even for 3 bucks but I wasn't as repulsed by them as I thought I would be. I didn't get them for the fit. I won't seek them out again but if I stumble across a pair of loose fitting pair for three bucks again...I might just have to bring the 80's back hardcore!

(My outfit: stolen borrowed men's shirt, Franco Sarto Shoes, Urban Outfitters Driver Cap, Target Belt)
I also did a little shoe shopping...and by shopping...I mean trying the shoes on and then deciding that I can problem DIY them for fun. They are cute. The shoes are starting to haunt me. I totally can see me rocking them with a gray t shirt and jeans! If anyone wants to DIY them for me and save me the trouble...go for it! I'll get my address to you!

Okay...gotta go...watching THE GOOD WIFE...OMG! Are you watching!?! Will and Alicia...then Alicia and her husband! AAAAAAAAAHHHH! I gotta focus...BYE! (if you don't watch The Good Wife...just look at the pretty pretty shoes:)

My Thrifting Coupe de Grace (Part 3)

Okay, boys and girls, this is it. These are my last few GFS thrifting tips. It's not rocket science really, you just have to possess an "obsessive" gene in your body. I've had to stop thrifting for a minute because I believe an old, rich Jewish woman recognized her shoes on my feet a few weeks ago. ( just kidding..she was Asian:)
For you slackers...click here for Tips 1-5.
And click here for Tips 6-10

11. Don't forget to look for accessories. Retro/Vintage/interesting belts can transform a simple dress.

(This is hands down my all time favorite thrifted belt! I wear it with everything...clearly)

12. This sounds like a joke but be in the MOOD to thrift. If you are having a bad day or rushing, you will never find anything.

13. Find a few places that you really like and pop in during the week. I find most of my gems on Tues and Wed after work as opposed to the weekend. That's how I got a ReAL Louis Vuitton for 50 bucks. I was there browsing on a random Tuesday and saw the manager put it on the shelf. I snatched it smooth out of her hands! {evil laugh appropriate here}

14. I hate this rule but...try on EVERYTHING! Most thrift places don't allow returns.

15. Find alternate ways to wear the obvious. (I thrifted a 3 buck cape that I can wear as a cape or as a wrap skirt...I'll post pics later.)

(This is indeed a daishiki my friends...JJ from Good Times is not the only person who can rock it)

16. When you see something that you know is worth it
. GET IT. Never assume that it will be there later. And make sure you love what you buy!

Now, can someone PLEASE share with me how to become wealthy rather quickly doing something that doesn't involve selling crack cocaine or pulling an all nighter while wearing nothing more than fishnet stockings and clear glass heels on Main Street? I'm taking serious suggestions only since THIS PLAN clearly isn't going to happen because a certain "somebody" decided to end her show soon! Oprah is so selfish!

Oh, I'm not above the fishnet and clear heels option but I would never sell crack cocaine.
(by the way...please press your humor button when you read my blog)
Pray for me! LOL
