The Night Before Sunday School

I went to see Erykah Badu perform last night.
#loveher
#texasgirl

I wore this short skirt.
I do that sometimes...

I wear short skirts.

Which means I could never be a preacher's wife.
I'm at peace with that though. Something tells me that I wouldn't be popular because I'd ban wearing pantyhose or white shoes to church.

But it doesn't mean I couldn't go to church.

Because I saw skirts shorter than this at church this morning.

(Urban Outfitters Top, Target Skirt, Aldo Earrings, DIY Raven Bag, Aldo Wedges)
Even I wouldn't go that far. I do have standards.
Just not at concerts...the night before church:)

Here is the obligatory bad concert shot.

She's Erykah Badu.
I expect nothing less:)

Blah

You would think that a week without posting would be filled with all kinds of shenanigans and whatnots. Nope. Not so much.

(Urban Outfitters Hat/Crop Top, Target Skirt, Thrifted clutch, Paris Hilton Heels, random necklace)

I've been trying to catch up on sleep. Of course, when I have 22 days left of insurance, I'm experiencing the onslaught of a major toothache. Awesome.

This outfit isn't even really worth posting but it's all I've got right now. I'm just rotating the same clothes lately. Don't you hate when that happens? Especially when you have a closet full of clothes!

But no whining and complaining here.

It is what it is.

Until next time! I'm still working on getting my real camera fixed:)

Easter Saturday

I am pretty sure you are sick of this skirt...well dress today but usually it's a skirt.

I'm sick of it too...but I love it so.
Therefore we both must suffer.
But you'll forgive me.
That's what Jesus did.

Happy Easter!

Happy New Year!

I told you I was gonna give this shirt another chance...much better with a skirt:)
I wore this New Year's Eve...then I ate praline cheesecake. There was stuff in between but that's the most important thing to know about my night...the cheesecake:)

(I thrifted this vintage overcoat a while back. I believe it was handmade. It's quite warm and makes me happy)

(Urban Outfitters T-shirt/Target skirt/ Aldo earrings)

I want to go to the gym but I know it's going to be stupid packed for a few weeks. I'm thinking a nice walk is what I'll start this new year with....after a nap:)

Southern Cowboy Pimp's Evangelist Wife

(Urban Outfitters hat and shirt/ Thrifted men's blazer/Target jeggins/Zara scarf, Nine West Booties)

I wore this to meet a friend (whom I met through this blog) at Starbucks.

We were there to gossip strategize about a few projects in the new year.  I don't love this look but it was Starbucks for crying out loud. This was doing too much in my opinion:)

I adore this shirt. Oversized? Check. Leopard print? Check. Reps Jesus? CHECK! I love it. It'll look better with a camel skirt and red heels (for street walking) or with a black fitted skirt and tights. I'll rework it. I kinda felt like a Southern Evangelist who happens to be a cowboy pimp's wife....no??

(Lazy hair day= hat)

While my friend and I were gossiping  strategizing, this Latin lover came over and insisted on trying on my hat...
then he commenced to write down his number for her. Not that she asked for it but because he felt she needed it.  He literally told her "Hey, even if you call and hang up. I will love you." I forced her to keep the number because he says he is an auto mechanic. We all need friends in high and low places!

Thanks Ash for taking my pics!

Also,  I've decided that I need to edit my closet. So make sure you "like" me on FB because that's the only place I'm selling the items for now:)

GFS Feature: Christ Chic!

(Zara's Sweater, ANCIENT Express skirt because I haven't stepped foot in there in about 6 years)

I have an Italian friend who worships Elvis Presley and the Pittsburgh Steelers, loves raunchy gangsta rap, reads her women's devotionals while taking smoke breaks, prefers red soda, decorates for all holidays, likes to fight, exposed me to tomales, displays a Pink flamingo bird in her yard, is renting a moon walk for this year's Christmas party and watches that show Glee...faithfully. Is your Italian like my Italian? My Italian is awesome! What up Lisa!

Well, she shared with me that she watched last week's episode of Glee and apparently one of the characters went to a baptist church and got exposed to a whole new style of dress...CHRIST CHIC!
I immedately knew I was going to use that name for my postings of Sunday outfits. Doesn't it just fit!

I may have told her I that I was going to watch that episode this weekend just for reference but I'd much rather watch Sister Wives...because well...they are SISTER WIVES!  Just the title of that show cracks me up! Have you seen it? The dude/the polygamist is not even hot!
At any rate here is my Christ Chic look for today.  I kept it basic because I really just wanted to wear the hat. The purse...I needed a pop of color so I dug in a drawer and came out with this flower pin and pinned it to my clutch.

I'll announce the winner of the Shoe Clips Giveaway this week!

Undercover

What would you throw on if you had only minutes to get ready to spy on your best girlfriend's blind date?

GFS in Dallas: Homebound

As much as I loved my trip to Dallas, I was kind of ready to go home. I could never be a celebrity. I got sick of living out of a suitcase and eating out every night. The one thing I wanted when I got back to Houston was a homecooked meal, and to watch tv in bed and have nowhere to go. I see why people like Prince don't tour alot..he wants to sleep in  his bed! I don't know that for a fact but he's a friend in my head and friends usually think alike.

I met some wonderful people in Dallas, people that I will surely keep in contact with. Before I left, I grabbed a fab statement necklace from Juanette because the necklace haunted me every night since I saw her wear it!
(You have to see it on...you can see Juanette wearing it in the post GFS in Dallas: Day 1)

One of the highlights (outside of meeting the Dallas bloggers) was finally making it to Buc-ee's! Do you guys have a Buc-ee's? I've traveled across Texas from time to time and I've always seen it...I thought it was just a truck stop. But oh no boo, Buc-ee's is anything but a truck stop! It's a movement! I don't really know how to describe it except that it's kind of like Wal-Mart meets Chucky Cheese meets a gas station meets a Deli Shop sponsored by CRACK! It was overwhelming!

It's the only place that you can get Jalopeno Cream Cheese in a jar, turkey jerkey, homemade Butter Pecan Fudge,  a DR. Pepper ICEE and the cleanest restrooms ever all under ONE ROOF! I'm a Buc-ee's believer! If you ever see one, stop and go in! You will never look at truck stops the same!

I was on the chartered bus on the way back home and I was reading my new book by Chastity Garner called "The Curvy Girl's Guide to Style". One person saw it and wanted to see it and by the time I got back to Houston, half the bus was asking about the book. That's when I was all like "Umm hmmm girl, my homegirl wrote this here book!" Totally pimping out the book! Chastity, the book was very popular among the curvy teachers I roll with!

Next stop? Norfolk, VA and Washington Dc in a few weeks!

Do It My Darn Self!

It's Monday and I'm ready for Friday already. This will be short and sweet because it's naptime. I saw a picture of Janet Jackson at last week's Fashion Week festivities and loved the look to death. I knew immediately that I could throw that look together. For a second, I did say to myself that even I would have have shown a little more "cleavage" than Ms. Nasty but I get it...she was going for the school librarian look. The look also put me in the mind of Michele Obama.

So here is my version of the Sexy Librarian/Teacher look. We will call this segment D.I.M...NOT...D.I.Y...because I DID IT MYSELF!

Cardigan: Target
Skirt: Banana Republic
Shirt: Urban Outfitters
Shoes: 9 West
Bag: In Philly visiting my cousin Messa 5 yrs ago

The challenge is still going on...just thought would share my D.I.M with you:)

Birthday Eve...!

This is what I wore to church today. I felt pretty much like I should have been on the 80's show Dynasty or Falcon Crest and I loved every bit of it. Shoulder pads are trying to make a come back, I tell ya. I won't go overboard with them but it was fun to rock the look:)

The entire outfit sans the shoes is completely vintage. Let me put it this way, I handed the cashier a five dollar bill for the dress and belt and still got change back! Ummm hmmm...go ahead and clutch your pearls, I did. I didn't have to make one alteration to it either. For a hot second I contemplated taking the shoulder pads out, but decided against it. It would take away the subtle drama of the sleeves.

The upside to the dress, the draping is uber flattering where it needs to be. The downside...it's 100% polyester. Which means that I am grateful for air conditioners in cars and in buildings. This is my new favorite Little Black Dress, hands down! I forsee me wearing this dress everywhere this fall!

It's the eve of my birthday and I really want to wear this to work tomorrow. Somehow, I don't think my freshmen students could care any less that I am overly dressed for work. Fashion is so underappreciated in a building where most teachers where khaki's and sweaters with apples and crocs:(

Anywho, I just wanted to share how great it felt to find something so fly by thrifting.

Dress: vintage Sakowitz via thrift shop
Belt: Thrifted
Shoes: Kate Spade via Marshall's
Clutch: Charles David via TJ Maxx years ago (it's my favorite clutch)
Earrings: Forever 21
Bracelet: So old, I can't remember...possibly Urban Outfitters?

P.S...My mom thinks I shouldn't tell my "business" about where I get my clothes...lol! And yay for me, I just figured out that the the camera had a timer on it...duh duh...I took my own pictures finally:)
