Ohio State at Belize Run 2011

Roughly 2,000 shoes were sent to Belize so far this year, including a large number distributed by wonderful Ohio State students on their Alternative Spring Break. The week was highlighted by the annual OWR Special Olympic Belize 5K and 3K, with great support from officials in Belize City. The group also went to Corozul and Orange Walk in the northern part of the country, to distribute shoes for smaller races. Thanks to Newton, Pearl Izumi, and everyone else contributing shoes for these races, and to the volunteers for taking the time to show that we are "One World." And good luck to the young runners who are developing in Belize; watch for them in the future.

2010 BELIZE RUN

The annual Belize Run was a success, our largest race so far in this small Central American country. A dozen undergraduates from Ohio State University distributed a total of 1,184 shoes to youngsters from 28 schools, as well as adults. The race was televised live on Belize TV channel 5, with the Prime Minister's wife walking the kids' 1.5 mile race. The larger race was a 5K, that started and finished on Princess Margaret Drive. A big thank you to everyone who sent in shoes.

Spring Break in Belize - You are Invited

We are inviting you to spend Spring break with One World Running in Belize to distribute shoes, help with community service at schools and help put on a race.

UPDATE: The 2009 race was a big success, with three distributions of more than 1,500 shoes taking place in Belize City and in two rural towns. The prime minister showed up, as well as the mayor of Belize City. Thanks to the 12 students from Ohio State who spent their spring break helping pass out shoes and put on the race.

Next year's race is set for March 22-30, 2010
The trip starts in Belize City, where we will meet up with a group from Ohio State University.
