GFS Gets Out of the House!

Vintage Blouse gifted by Juanette
Target Skirt
Vintage Train Case (Found one after worshipping Juanette's)
L.A.M.B. Heels (super comfy)

I had the pleasure of attending Dismount Creative's Pre-Launch Party in Houston.
Through the power of blogging I've met phenominal people and Alicia, creator of Dismount Creative, is no exception.

(Alicia got in on my mini-photo shoot)

The concept of her company is really dope. Instead of having a regular girls night/happy hour...why not do something like make jewelry at the same time? Brilliant, right? RIGHT!

(Alicia teaching us how to hand stamp jewelry while sipping on adult beverages:)

I was so inspired by Alicia because she shared that she worked as a chemical engineer but decided to take a leap of faith and do something that she loves. Amen sister!

I got to hang out with my uber talented new blog buddy DIY Raven.

Raven rocked one of her American Apparel inspired bags that she starts selling this week!
(Remember, I wore my very own custom "Reiko Red" bag here:)

Consider Me Lovely's Rocquelle was there! Can I just say that I HEART her! She refused to believe that I'm 35! Bless her heart:)

(She's rocking the Jessica Simpson Dany heels)

And I somehow forced her to finish making my jewelry. She did it...graciously:)

Hopefully this will be the first of many meetings/social hours/gabfests!

Nothing formal. Feel free to bring business cards or just come hang out for a few hours:)

Let me know if you plan on being there!

You can also bring your donation for me to purchase my Gressimo Gingham Knot Pumps. I will take all increments of money. Thank you.

Just kidding....unless you gon' do it:)

And I will be at the Texas Style Council in Austin this weekend! I look forward to meeting some of my favorite bloggers!

The Particulars

No pics of today's outfit. I'll give you a hint though...I'm rocking flats. Enough said.

I just wanted to drop a few notes...

1. Lynn (Thanks Lynn!) over at Shoe Clips is offering $10 off the Ocelot Ultra Suede Bow shoe clips that I worship.  The same ones that Ro from Ro is Gettng Fit just won:)
Coupon Code: Ocelot

2. Are you Team GFS?

3. Houston Bloggers: Anyone interested in doing a low key blogger meet up in the future....maybe in Nov or Dec? You don't have to be a blogger, maybe you just read blogs. If so, I would love to trade cards and meet people. You know me, but I don't know you. That's not right! Only sane people should come though. I have an uncle who is a cop, a volatile cousin that's just looking for his next fight and a mama that will plead the BLOOD OF JESUS in a minute over any suspect characters! HA! Let me know, seriously.

GFS in Dallas: Part 1

I was in Dallas for a week and I made the most of every moment...thriftily speaking that is. I knew that Juanette from Fashion-nette was in Dallas and we have chatted through emails before so we agreed to meet. Since I'm all about thrifting, I could tell through Juanette's blog that we had the same style so I knew she would know the spots.

(This pic was taken after hours of thrifting! We were both exhausted!)

When I got to town...I went to my meetings and scurried to the hotel to meet her. This is how the conversation went.

Me: Hey girl, I'll be ready around 6pm.
Juanette: Okay. I'l be there but I'm kind of sick so I hope you didn't dress up.
Me: (looking at what I had on) Nah, I just have on a skirt and some wedges. Nothing special.
Juanette: Okay. I've got a cold so I'm not gonna be all jazzy.
Me: Okay. (thinking about changing into some jeans and flats but didn't feel like ironing)

Fast forward 15 minutes.

I get my butt in the car and this chick looks like she just stepped off the pages of Essence magazine! Really Juanette? Sick...really? Why do you have on make-up Juanette? Why do you have on that beautiful maxi dress? Why do you have on heels Juanette? This is not the look of I'm So SICK! She was trying to catch me slipping YALL! When I'm sick, I have on a tee and jeans and maybe a cute sandal...usually a cap pulled over my head...not beautiful earrings and a PRADA bag on my arm!

I am wearing the Zebra wedges by Sam Edelman. Remember when I wore that dress from ASOS here? The dress came in that printed fabric. I just stuffed one of my large clutches inside it to make it sturdy and voila...a new clutch!

As soon as  I get in the car, I gave her a not so secret "side eye". Ummm hmmmm. I see how you are Juanette. You wanted me to be the ugly duckling? No boo, no!

This was literally the first time we have ever met and you would swear that we've known each other few years. She didn't hesitate taking me anywhere at all! She took me to some hidden gems and I found some awesome pieces that I will show you later.  The funny part is the thrift stores didn't have dressing rooms. You would've turned around wouldn't you? Nope. Not us. Juanette showed me her corner of the store in the back and all you saw were shirts flying, zippers breaking, hips squeezing! I had to prove to her that I could hang.

We had a blast and she was so willing to take me anywhere. This girl is crazy talented...I will tell you more about that in the next installment of GFS in Dallas: Part 2 along with Erin and Tina. I also met, Chastity a new author of a fab book! That will be in Part 3!

GFS Does Dallas (The Prelude)

I'm not able to get into full blog mode yet because I am still in Dallas on business but I did manage to meet some fab Dallas bloggers. I'll post in detail when I get back home and settled but the pictures alone should tell you how it went.

P.S....Here are a few of the topics we covered.

1. Jobs
2. Getting your hustle on when you have a craft/gift (ERIN!) or a business (Juanette!)
3. Being invited to a wedding where you are asked to pay 60  65 bucks for your plate...(hot mess)
4. Cutting off dinner dates to get home before the sun sets to take pics of your clothes for your blog
5. The joys of the Hoola Hoop!
More meet ups/shenanigans and foolishness to come

I had a blast ladies!
(Sorry for the title of this post...I had to do it. If you don't know what I am talking about...it's good that you don't:)

Today is the Day

Here is a quickie of what I wore today. I'm not overly impressed with it but I was going for total comfort today. Just one of those days. The skirt from Zara's is actually floor length. I have it pulled all the way up to my chest to shorten the length. I love that it's a jersey material, it feels like sweats...wait... a sweat skirt!
I'm not completely sure if I love these $7 Suede oxfords from Target with this outfit. I figured for 7 bucks, I could try out the new "brogue/oxford" shoe look. I think I need to wear them with leggings or a dress and tights.

Oh, today is the day that I officially started going back to the gym. It's been since forever but after two straight weeks of "waking up sleepy"... I decided to take matters in my own hands. I can tell that I am getting old because I'm  having to do old people stuff like work out and exfoliate my skin every night. LOL!

I went to my Zumba class today and let's just say that I was only conscious for the first half of it. The second half, I think I was hallucinating because the dance instructor started to grow horns out of her head. . If I knew how to insert my own personal IV in my arm, I would totally have a drip going right now.

Random thoughts while I was hyper-ventilating (working out).

1. Apparently, I can't dance as well as I thought because I could not even keep the beat and breathe at the same time.
2. That gay guy has way more rhythm than me.
3. Is he gay?
4. He's kinda hot.
5. The gay guy totally looks like "Slade" from the Housewives of the O.C.
6. Will the gay guy be able to pick me up once I finally decide to collapse?

7. When did the room start spinning?
8.  I need to find out what Shakira song is playing while I watch the class do lunges.
9. I need to program an emergency number in my cell phone in case I do collapse.
10. Should I eat that one slice of leftover pizza in the fridge when I get home?

Attention Houston Bloggers...I was talking to Mocha Trina of Ah Me So Hungry and she suggested doing a Houston Blogger meet up...anyone interested? Let me know.

(Oh...for the "sensitive"...Please read the "about me" section to the upper right of my page. If you did, or you know me...you know I find humor in most situations...I'm kind of like Chandler from Friends. God totally has a sense of humor too...look at me:)
