Why Do We Buy?

I'm obviously a shoe addict. I buy shoes on an almost weekly basis and my shoe "closet" is overflowing with shoes... I know that sounds great but it's really getting ridiculous. I think I may have a problem.

I was shopping this week and trying on a really awesome pair of glittery sky high Louboutins and was about to buy them when my friend, a sales associate at the boutique, casually asked "What are you buying them for?"

Huh?

What did she mean? I was buying them cause I wanted them! Did I need a specific reason? Do people buy shoes for a purpose other than having a fabulous pair of shoes? This may sound totally silly but I think this just hit me- I buy shoes without actually thinking about when/where I'm going to wear them. It never occurred to me that I was doing this but when I actually think about it, I feel like a total ass.

I blame my job. As a shoe designer we're constantly shopping, or as we like to call it- it "researching". We have to be on top of all the current trends and know all the hot shoes, but a side affect of that is, of course, wanting shoes for ourselves.  I've gotten to the point where I find myself buying shoes just to have them. If I used this "where are you going to wear them" logic, I bet I'd have about half the shoes I have.

Some examples?
Well, these DSquared spine heels are a great example. Where can I wear these? I wore them a couple of times so far. Once to the mall just to show them to all my friends (I'm a total mall rat if you didn't know) and another time or two to I forget where. They're high and fragile and not exactly comfortable, but they're works of art!

Another pair I just had to have? These Fendi Cinderella shoes. I wore them once to the Emmys last year and they were painfully uncomfortable so I never wore them again. But gosh they're beautiful...

Ok, one more! These boots that I just HAD to have. But again, I didn't think about where I'd wear them. I mean, they're suede! I'm terrified to wear them in case I ruin them... but boy are they pretty.

I could go on and on and on. I've decided to clean and organize my shoes and really look at what I have. I need to make an effort to buy more consciously!! I know that doesn't sound like much fun but If I don't slow down my shoes are going to take over our house! Look at this room- it's crazy. I'm like a shoe hoarder!

WHAT A MESS! I'll post an after photo as soon as I get it under control ;)

What about you? Do you think before you buy?? Do you always have a plan before you shop or are you guilty of impulse buying too?

Home Sweet Home!

Hello friends!! I'm home :) I can't believe I was gone for so long... almost a whole month! Here's a little wrap up of what I was up to over there...

I flew into London where we only had one day to shop. London has some of my favorite window displays like these featuring some seriously amazing shoes.

 (Lanvin)

(Louboutin)

Then it was off to Italy- Pisa to be exact. From Pisa we drove to Florence where we stayed and shopped for the day. I finally got to go to Luisa Via Roma and I felt like I was going to the motherland! While I was there I met super talented designer Alejandro Ingelmo who just happened to be there at the same time. He was super nice and quite cute I might add ;)

We stayed at the Excelsior Hotel which was AMAZING and I took lots of pictures, but I lost my iPhone in a taxi in Milan so all the photos I took are gone. Such a bummer.

Milan was next... more shopping and some amazing food. We have this little restaurant we go to every time we go to Milan. It's some of the best food I've ever had in my life! Again... lots of pictures but we'll never see them. Here's a preview of the shoes I found in Milan

 (Casadei)

(Guido Pasquali)
Next was Paris! Another store I love but had never been to was Colette. I was so excited to see it in person and I wasn't disappointed. I found my dream dress for my upcoming 30th birthday but... I'm not about to send $10,000 on it. haha!

I also found these amazingly weird shoes by Margiela. Love.

My friend Sheva met me in Paris and helped me shop some more!
 And eat some more...

(on me- rvca shirt, gucci glasses)
Such a bummer...
(on me- alc leather jacket, alexander mcqueen scarf, seven jeans, tori burch flats)

If you ever visit Paris I HIGHLY recommend taking the metro everywhere. It's SO cheap and SO easy. I can't believe how easy it was. We took it all week and didn't get lost once.

I also recommend wine and cheese. Obvs.
These are my new nerd chic glasses from Gucci. I'm obsessed with them!

I wanted it to be a raspberry beret...
(on me- comptoir des cotonniers trench, kookai top, paule ka necklace)

There was some seriously amazing, though seriously expensive, designer vintage near the Place de la Madeleine.

I went a little nuts at the Acne store. Oops.
(on me- comptoir des cotonniers trench, zara scarf, puma shoes, balenciaga bag, gucci glasses)

Paris was so much fun and I was so glad to be there with a friend :)
(on me- f21 top, hale bob leggings, chanel necklace)

Last stop on my trip was Morocco where I met up with my family for a week of relaxation. It was truly amazing.

I want to do a more detailed post but I just wanted to let you guys know what I've been up to!
Talk to you soon!

xoxo

Off to Europe!

Well friends, I'm off! I'm leaving my puppies and husband behind for a whirlwind of shopping mania! A couple co-workers and I are going to be running around soaking in all the latest trends in footwear and fashion for the next week or so, then I'm off to Morocco with my parents and sisters. I'm excited and overwhelmed at the same time. Were going to 3 countries in 4 days and packing for a 3 week trip is really hard- especially when it's basically 3 separate trips. Shopping/Fun/Family.

Anyway- I'll try to keep you updated as much as possible. I went back and forth on whether or not I was going to bring my laptop (and therefore, my blog) but I decided to pack the extra 5.6 Lbs ;)

LOVE YOU GUYS!!

While I'm in London, Paris, Milan, Florence, and Morocco is there anything you'd like to see? I'm officially taking requests now so let me know!

I've Been a Very Bad Girl

Every year this happens. The best stuff goes on sale right around the holidays. Coincidence? Or a really smart ploy to get us shopaholics going?
I feel like a really selfish bitch because though I bought myself no less than 7 pairs of shoes... seriously... I have yet to buy any Christmas presents.
Selfish.

But I know I'm not alone! Every girl friend I complain to tells me the same thing. "Me too girl. Me too."

Listen. It's too damn cold and I'm too damn busy working shoe making miracles to stand outside posing for photos but here is a little sneak peek of the shoes...

ok, NOT on sale but look at them!!! Amaze.

Selfridges Shoe Galleries

One of my favorite parts about shopping in Europe was going to London and seeing how shoe crazy Selfridges was! They recently opened their new Shoe Galleries with plenty of fanfare.
Their windows were all about shoes and they had designers make their own shoe boxes representing their style. Here are some of my favorites...

These are both so girly and sparkly! Love.

Burberry obviously knows which shoe, or boot in this case, was their biggest hit!

Marni being kind of morbid... Drowning dolls

And MORE shoes in windows! I love these... super cute

Blue period?

A take on the Wizard of Oz and the house falling... (sorry for the glare)

GIANT shoes!

There were even shoes for desert when we stopped for lunch!
