Stolen Goods

Aldo Shoes, Gap (remember I dyed it last summer) skirt

This is what I call my stolen goods outfit. I swiped the trench a few weeks ago from a certain ten year old who doesn't appreciate the value of a good trench jacket.

I may have or may not have stolen the shirt out of a certain somebody's closet as well. It wouldn't be the first time. It won't be the last. The trick to is to wait until he leaves for work to avoid the whole "No, man that's my good shirt" speech. I timed it perfectly.

Whatever. It served a purpose today.

GFS in New Orleans: The Beginning

I was in New Orleans this weekend. I haven't been there since before Katrina (hurricane). I was curious to see if the "vibe" of New Orleans was still there. I'd been there 4 times before the hurricane so I felt like I had enough prior knowledge for a fair comparison.

It's only a 6 hour drive from Houston, so it left a little time to poke around the streets.

After a few  hours in the city, I could  sense a different vibe there....not a bad vibe...just a different one.

The essence of New Orleans was still there in the food and the attractions but it seems the people have changed. You know what...it's just coming to me...TOURISTY.

That's what it is! There was more of a tourist vibe to it than I remember.

It was a different type of unique though. I have my theories on the change of the atmosphere but the heart of New Orleans was still detectable. For alot of Texans, New Orleans is home away from home so I certainly need to go back more often!

My ultimate goal whenever I'm in New Orleans is to try all the authentic cajun food  possible without going into a food induced coma. This trip was no different.

We made it to Port of Call based on the recommendation of Ro. The first thing we noticed was that fries aren't even offered on the menu. You get a side of a huge baked potato or nothing at all. I took the baked potato.  (If you follow me on twitter then you saw a pic of it already:) It was the pefect spot to eat and take in the locals:)

(They look like they don't have a care in the world:)

Next New Orleans post coming in a few days...

Simplicity

This is what happens when one is tired and just wants to look like they atleast attempted to pull together simple look. I wore this to dinner last night. I got the shirt from Target because my school allows us to wear college tee's on certain days to promote college awareness for our students. I bought this three sizes too big to give it a loose/slouchy look. I threw on some jewelry and heels and out the door I went.

(Target Shirt/Skirt, Aldo Shoes, F21 Elephant Necklace, JCP necklace)

P.S...If you are in a funk and you wanna get out of it, google Cee-lo Green's newest song, I can't type the name of it because then I'll have to make an appointment with a priest to repent but it's worth it if you find it...by the way I'm not Catholic so that should let you know it's pretty naughty if I'm going to confessional for even typing the title of the song. Everytime I hear the song, I blush...giggle...and dance all at the same time.  If you know what the song is...don't judge me. God has his work cut out with me...I'm his personal project:)

And my dog Frankie Beverly wanted to show you his scarf swag:)

My Intentions Were Pure

(I can't wait to wear this dress as an open jacket over some jeans or jeggings)

My intentions were good. I promise. I got dressed in this little frock (thrifted for 2 bucks)and set out for church. Somehow, I ended up at a restaraunt eating pancakes, a hashbrown casserole and bacon. What can I say, God knows my heart WANTED to go to church. Doesn't that count for something? It has to. Somebody woke up drunk this morning. I woke up and got dressed for Jesus. I just didn't quite make it. Atleast I got dressed...right? Right.

Guilt for not making it to church: Me
Does it count if I told you that the pancakes were the best pancakes ever?

Also, I found this silk dress/jacket/ in the nightgown/robe section of the thrift store. The lesson is...look everywhere for hidden gems while thrfting.

Repeat Offender

Haven't you seen this dress before on this blog? UMMM...yeah...kinda like alot. Don't act like you don't repeat your clothes. I remember seeing an episode  of MTV Cribs years ago and I will never forget that they were featuring Damon Dash (Jay-z's former business...aww..forget it, I'm not on their payroll, you can google him:) Well, I remember watching and he said that he doesn't wear his sneakers or his shirts twice. AS IN...he would wear some sneakers on Monday and literally give them away or throw them away. Really dude? Really? You couldn't ship those kicks over to countries where kids are getting shot with pellot guns for running barefoot to school to get a subpar education?? Anyway...yeah, you've seen this dress before.

The reason you are seeing it yet again is because the dress with this thrifted Ralph Lauren striped buttoned down somehow became the cutest thing in the world to me. (It doesn't take much to please me:) Then, I was looking for shoes and thought OOOOHHHH I'll wear the Aldo shoes that I thrifted from trusty Goodwill!! Hence, you are seeing the dress again. Sue me. Real people repeat their clothes.  You better ask somebody:)
So, it was Thursday and I couldn't wait until the weekend to see the Sex and The City 2 Movie (don't worry, I won't spoil anything for you:). I rearranged my whole after work routine to go see it. The following is what happened in my quest to see the movie:
1. Got Crawfish juice in my eye.
2. Wasted water on my phone while eating.
3. Watched my phone have seizures right before my eyes.
4. Left restaraunt to run errands w my sis n law. (who insisted on calling me Cinderella for wearing a poofy dress, lol)
5. Realized I lost my keys.
6. Found keys back at the "crawfish in my eye" restaraunt
7. Finally made it to the movie. *
8. Took pictures of my shoes in the theater.
9. Watched some drunk ladies get escorted out of the movie theater because they were cackling through the whole movie. (That was pretty funny.)
10. There is no # 10...isn't 1 thru 9 enough?

Don't cry for me though, it's a 3 day weekend! And I have exactly one week from today before my summer vacation starts!

*I think my expectations were too high but  the clothes/style/fashion in the movie was visually stimulating enough to satisfy me. It wasn't bad. I feel like I need to see it again just to focus on one of the characters at a time. My eyes were trying to take in too much visually at one time! lol.*

One Whole Dolla

Remember that shopping ban that I may have or may have not put myself on? If I bought this dress for a dollar, does that really count? I mean really. One whole dolla? You be the judge! The dress is a tad too big and a tad too long but it was nothing a belt couldn't fix.

I have really been into the Ralph Lauren Spring 2010 look. That whole "housewife during the Dustbowl era with heels" look really appeals to me for some reason. This dress reminds me of the uniform my mom wore when she was a waitress when I was about 5 or 6 years old. She worked at Sambo (what a name)...it was basically a Denny's...I think. I remember she had to wear a uniform and it looked alot like this.
That's amazing that I remember that because I can't even remember what I ate for breakfast! I have the worst time remembering people I went to high school with and I have the nerve to remember where my mother worked when I was 5? Since I'm reminiscing...I also remember one time my mom dropped me and my brother off at elementary school and the car caught on fire when we got there!

(By the way...the season finales of Grey's Anatomy and The Good Wife have me freaking out!!)

Betty or Wilma?

I can't help but feel like Wilma or Betty from the Flintstones in this dress...which means I LOVE IT! I always loved how chic and form fitting their outfits were. Is it just me? I got this dress from the ASOS Africa line. I usually am attracted to ethnic prints and this was right up my alley. It's ethnic with a modern silhouette. I've had it for a minute. I'll be honest. It was a little snug on the jelly but I recently lost 10 lbs so I decided to see if the jelly was ready! It's ready! I love it!
I'm wearing it with Aldo Shoes and a F21 necklace/earrings. I've had that orange bag for years. I got it at a boutique in Philly when I went to visit my cousin. I am pretty sure this dress will be in heavy rotation this summer. I'm wearing heels here but I can easily take off the jewelry, throw on a belt and sandals and go to a festival or something.
It's a little on the short side but a little leg never killed anybody:)
In other news, for some reason I am thrown off this week. All day yesterday, I thought it was today. (Did I confuse you yet). I thought yesterday was Wednesday when it really was Tuesday. I even missed my favorite Tuesday shows!!! UGH!!!! I was so mad at myself! Then fast forward to today and I did the same thing. Really Reiko? Really?

So who do you think? Am I more like Wilma or Betty?

And for further randomness...You should know that I am obsessed with the song Soul Sista by Train. I sing it really loud every single time I hear it!

If you are wondering how I am losing the weight...I joined Weight Watchers and I work out whenever I can. But mostly it's due to this class. This is my actual Zumba teacher and those are the actual songs and dances we do:) I'm not in the video...trust me that would be a travesty...but I love my ZUMBA CLASS and teacher!

Yes, I get down like that!
And trust me, we get alot more grimey than this. Karen has us working it out! She has this same level of energy every single time. The above video is my favorite routine cause I get to wind it like that long hair Asian woman on Soul Train:) My buddy Ro usually has to convince me not to jump off the roof before the class is over!

Inspired

It rained like crazy this weekend. Rain + Afro= Wearing a Cap/Hat

Here's just a quick weekend post. I rarely wear shorts...and by rarely I mean never. But for some reason, I've decided it's okay. I absolutely loathe the feeling of shorts "riding up" on me. It drives me crazy but these are actually comfy to wear.
I am not one of those "runway" watchers but I must say that I've stumbled across a few of the Ralph Lauren Spring shots and immediately fell in love. I'm really into menswear and this is done oh so right. It kind of has that "I'm a farmer during the Dust Bowl era and the only thing I have to wear are my husband's clothes" kind of look. My ensemble today was directly inspired by the Ralph Lauren "look". I already have a few more "inspired" outfits in mind:)
By the way, I was a having a discussion about my style today and I couldn't come up with an official title for my style. Scroll down this page and take a look at some of my pics. How would you describe my style?

Happy Easter!

I hope everyone celebrated the miraculous Resurrection in style! I cheated and went to church on Friday to avoid the C.M.E. (Christmas, Mother's Day, Easter) crowd. I also saw Why Did I Get Married Too? and had a fabulous dinner.

Aldo Shoes
This belt is my favorite belt of all time!

If there was ever a dress that fits my personality perfectly...it's this dress! I wish I could wear it everyday!

My dog, Frankie Beverly, wanted to cha cha cha with me:)
Peep the pink petticoat underneath! Love it!

I won something free today! It's a swag bag from Mish over at Mish Dish! I can't wait to get it! Thank you Bloggy Godmother!

P.S...For people like my sister who only look at the pics. I did NOT wear this dress to church! LOL...although I still would have been covered up more than some of the chicks I see in the churchhouse!...I'm just saying!

Black Out Challenge (Day 3)

(I got this slouchy top and winged cardi from JC Penney...I totally feel like Diana Ross with those winged arms...which is always the point of getting dressed, isn't it? Who doesn't want to be a diva like Diana? By the way, the prices on JCP online for the shirt/cardi were more than what I paid. Both were under 12 bucks)

(Aldo Shoes)

I'm back on track. After the mishap yesterday, I believe I am redeeming myself with this ensemble. If you are just dropping by, I am punishing myself to wearing no black for a week because that's all I ever wear. Don't even ask me about my poses! I saw a park...pulled over and started posing. One thing led to another and pretty soon I'm running through the fields taking pictures! Just laugh at the pics...I did!

By the way, this is my theme song until I decide to change it. This is the song I want played any time I enter a room!

....well...it plays in my head when I walk in the room anyway!
